Devlin DeFrancesco is about to spend three consecutive weekends racing at Ocala Gran Prix as prior to racing back-to-back Florida Winter Tour finales he will make his Snap-on Stars of Karting debut run this weekend in Cadet. It’s the fourth major championship opener for the young Canadian as he is already active in the World Karting Association Manufacturer’s Cup, the FWT International Rotax Max Challenge, and the FWT Formula Kart Championship. Already among the quickest kid karters on the continent in Rotax Micro-Max, DeFrancesco will continue to fine tune his Cadet set-up beginning Friday.
Round two of the Florida Winter Tour Formula Kart Championship was the last major action for the eight-year-old as DeFrancesco produced a pair of top ten runs at Homestead Karting last month. Ninth from practice and tenth in Saturday qualifying, DeFrancesco advanced in his first run for firstkart.com as he cut over a half-second from his quick lap and moved to eighth in the Cadet field. He nearly matched the time in the final, and crossed ninth in his first run and third race of the championship. Sunday brought race four, and once again DeFrancesco was cutting chunks of time. He nearly took a half-second off for the second straight day, and qualified P7 to begin the day. After backing up to tenth in the heat run, he fought through the final to crack the top ten and crossed ninth for the second straight day.
In championship standing, DeFrancesco remains highest in the International Rotax Max Challenge where he is sitting fifth at 675 points, and just 64 points from third overall. In FWT Cadet, he holds tenth in points with 460, and in the World Karting Association Man. Cup he will be looking for trouble-free runs when the schedule resumes in May, something he didn’t have at Daytona KartWeek in kicking off his season. Practice begins Friday in Ocala with race days following through the weekend. |
