Race Report: Simcoe Kart Club - Race #6

Melissa Glaze swept the day in Senior Lite
Melissa Glaze swept the day in Senior Lite

Simcoe Kart Club contested the sixth race of its championship schedule on Sunday as Rick McMullen and 401 Mini-Indy made a return appearance at 3-S Go Karts in Sutton. Originally set to support the opening event of the season, rain and cold temperatures led to a cancellation of racing and a move to July. This time out warm sunshine was the order of the day as seven classes of karters took to the track. Leading the way in the race of the day was Melissa Glaze in Senior Lite.

Glaze took pole with a time of 39.518 seconds in a field that was very tight at the front. Both Jeremy Brutzki and Jamie Riberdy clocked within a tenth of a second, and Michael Glaze and Jon Treadwell were just over a tenth back. The same five controlled the prefinal as each crossed within 1.3 seconds. Glaze went flag-to-flag at the front while the boys battled for position throughout. Riberdy and Treadwell each took a turn in second before Michael Glaze took and held the spot working lap seven of the ten-lap prefinal. Treadwell crossed third, Brutzki fourth and Riberdy fifth.

After setting the fastest lap in the field during the prefinal and climbing from fifth to second, Michael Glaze continued forward in the final and had the lead by lap three. Melissa Glaze was second and Riberdy third ahead of Treadwell and Ryan Brutzki. The lead trio would wiggle free working to half distance where Melissa Glaze took back the point from her brother. There they stayed through twenty laps, Glaze winning from Glaze by 0.314 seconds. Riberdy was third, Treadwell fourth, and Daniel Geer fifth.

Other winners from Race #6 included: Cole Ledson in Novice; Nicolas Ledson in Mini-Max; Nico Fattore in TaG Senior; Shawn Gardiner in Masters; Jessica Brutzki in Junior Heavy and Trevor Rancier in Junior Light. Next action for SKC is July 26th as Dave Ward and Wilderness Recreation sponsor Race 7 at Gamebridge Go Karts. For more information, visit http://www.simcoekartclub.com
