Event News: Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship - Round #5 Shannonville - Preview

The Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship begins it’s annual five day ‘Festival of Speed’ as racers from across the province descend on the famed Shannonville Motorsports Park to take to a very unique karting venue and the regions toughest competition. Organizers are expecting record numbers with the coveted grand stand parking area sold out weeks in advance of the event. The paddock area features lots of space for parking and camping and plenty room to fit the expected large turnout.

“You only get to come to Shannonville once a year,” comments Enzo Chiovitti, Simcoe Kart Club board member and BSRKC Official. “You only get a two days to be ready and you need to be fast right from the start. Here the draft is so important it really takes a special setup to win.”

With this unique event comes a very unique trophy and a number of special classes. A total of 22 classes are on tap over three days of competition with some new combinations in the four-cycle classes to give drivers additional track time and more chances at winning a Bear. The event kicks off with two full days of practice as drivers work to find the right set-up for the tight turns, the long sweeper and the huge front straightaway.

So far in 2009 the BSRKC has seen record turnouts at every event. Averaging nearly 250 entries per weekend has guaranteed solid grids and amazing racing. Event organizers are hoping to hit the 375-mark and set a new record attendance for Ontario racing. Event organizers have stated that if the total entries for the weekend reach 375, the prize packages for all classes will be significantly increased as a way to give back the karters and make this special weekend even more special.

To add to the excitement the BSRKC, along with MG Tires, will be offering a special prize to the TAG Senior and TAG Junior classes. Up for grabs will be a fully paid trip the Granja 500, to be drawn between the winner of the JR and SR TAG classes to be used at the 2010 Granja 500 in Brazil.

“Coming back to Shannonville each July is great for the BSRKC,” states Mike Preston, BSRKC series spokesman and WRKC board member. “Every driver puts this event on their calendar and brings their A game looking to capture a Grand Nationals Bear.”
