| Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals: Final Preparations |
Drivers and members of Team Canada which will take part of the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals next week in Sharm El Sheikh are in final preparations for this event. The Grand Finals are the culminating point of this Challenge held in over 60 different countries. No other karting event regroup so many different countries.
The Rotax Max Challenge started in 2000. At this time, the challenge had only one category, Rotax Max. The world finals took place in Puerto Rico in November 2000. For this first edition, people didn’t know what to expect from this event. Team Canada was composed of five drivers from Québec and one from Ontario after competing in an eight race series in Québec.
"Michel Boisclair and I are the only two Canadians to be at each edition of the world finals. When we think about the first edition and what we see now, there is no comparison possible. The first time, our drivers went there alone, without mechanics! Clément Duriez from SH Karting send there one of his mechanics to help the drivers because five of them were his customers. In a few hours, I became a mechanic. Team Canada was not alone in this situation but the year after, in Malaysia, people knew it wasn’t a regional race and most of the countries were more prepared,” said Patrick Moreau, RMC National manager.
Over the years, BRP-Rotax added the Rotax Max Junior and DD2 classes, and now rewards the top three Master drivers in the Rotax Max and DD2 classes. Including this year, this international karting competition will have given the opportunity to 45 different Canadian drivers to participate at least at one of the Grand Finals held in Puerto Rico, Malaysia (2), South Africa, Egypt (2), Canary Islands, Portugal, United Arab Emirates and Italia.

The best edition of the RMCGF for Team Canada was the 2007 Grand Finals in Al Ain, U.A.E. when team Canada won the Nations Cup, accomplished by the results of Mikael Grenier in junior, Christophe Boisclair in senior and Pier-Luc Ouellette in DD2. At this event, Ouellette won the title in the DD2 class while Luc Sauriol finished third amongst the Master drivers in Rotax Max. Team Canada had a few other great results at the RMCGF when Luc Sauriol won the Master title in Portugal, and last year in Italy when Pier-Luc Ouellette finished second in DD2.
