| eKartingNews.ca Exclusive: Top-10 Photos of 2009 by Cody Schindel |
Traveling across North America to capture the best of our sport, Cody Schindel of Autosports Media Group has picked out his ten favorite pictures of 2009 exclusively for EKN.ca. As a photo journalist his job is to capture a moment in time, to be at the right the place at the right time to snap the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat or just something that makes this sport so cool. A picture is more then a balance of light and lens, it’s peering into the subject and pulling something forward that connects us together.
“Each shot means something to me and honestly it’s not the subject at all. I don’t look for a person or number, I look for something that captures the scope of what we do,” comments Schindel. “For me it is the moment, its’ here and gone and you have one shot to get it right.”
It has been said a million times that a picture is worth a thousand words. As a journalist I have to agree. These images capture what words can’t describe. Take a moment and enjoy.

It has been quite a few years since this many karts took the track in Shannonville. 46 Senior Honda's took the green flag and cleanly made is through turn one.

The August of 2009, the Point Pelee Karting Club held their first annual 'Simulated Rain Race.' Held in Leamington, Ontario, the sun capital of Canada, the club trucked in 8800 gallons of water and wet down the track every few sessions.

Shot from above the NKN trailer during the Ocala Rotax round of the Florida Winter Tour, 28 Mini-Max's shuffle through the carousel. Everything from the blue sky, to the fully flown flag amaze me about the depth of this image.

This image could have been ranked anywhere on my top-10 list. This victory for Frank Launi was in his first race back in 2009. Covered in emotion as he was interviewed after the victory, he dedicated the win to his father.

This image is just simply spectacular. This image displays the raw speed of the Rotax powerplants at Shannonville.

Pushing the limits? Alex Speed pushes the limits of his TonyKart during the first Florida Winter Tour visit to Homestead Karting.

Kids, don't try this at home. Quite possibly the best victory celebration I have ever witnessed. 2009 SKUSA SuperPro Champion Bas Lammers celebrated all the way down the back straight in Las Vegas while standing up and shaking competitors hands along the way.

If you haven't attended the Monaco de Trois Rivieres, I strongly suggest you add it to your calendar for 2010. Upwards of 20 000 people were expected to spectate during the 2009 event. This image just sums up the event in my mind.

After Cory Cacciavillani's dominating performance during the Ontario Grand Nationals in Shannonville, where he earned four of a possible five 'Bears', Cory proudly sported the 'Team Spaducci' flag after receiving his final trophy.

Selecting just one photo as my favourite of the year was very challenging. But what sets this image out from the rest is just the simple difference that it is from every other photo being taken at this moment. These three pilots were the highlight of the event, and were followed everywhere, a media and fan frenzy.
