With the 2010 Karting season just underway, there is perhaps no racer in the nation kicking it off as big as Devlin DeFrancesco. When the nine-year-old hits the track this coming weekend in Orlando, he’ll begin a two-month odyssey in which he’ll race four straight weekends and seven of the next eight!
His first pair of the New Year will see the Alonso Kart USA driver at Orlando Kart Center, kicking off the Florida Winter Tour as part of both the Formula Kart Weekend and the Rotax Max Challenge. Race weekend one will be in Vortex TaG Cadet, and the DeFrancesco Racing team will stay in Orlando and begin a Mini-Max schedule one week later. After that it’s a move to Homestead, where after finishing up the 2009 Fall Championship Schedule with Race 6, he’ll contest the opening round of the Championship Karting International 2010 Florida Cup.
It will surely get the season rolling, but in fact racing has never really stopped for DeFrancesco. Last August he captured the Canadian National Micro-Max Championship and in September he finished third at the US Rotax Grand Nationals. He also began the Homestead Fall Championship in September, and followed with rounds in October, November, and a pair of starts in December. The first three months of the New Year will bring ten race weekends in total, all before what just may be the most exciting upcoming prospect for the rising star - running in Europe with the TonyKart Junior Team!
DeFrancesco will begin both testing and racing overseas this year as he crosses the Atlantic with guides Bobby Wilson and Ben Cruttenden. A full North American schedule is also prepared, though DeFrancesco looks unlikely to return to his home and native land, save the possibility of the Canadian National Championships in August if his schedule allows.
