Team News: SRA Karting/Arrow - Quebec Championships Report

The third round of the Québec Championship took place last weekend on the beautiful Thetford Mines track. Team SRA Karting was there to support the Arrow drivers which performed very well all weekend long.

In the Rotax Senior, it was a good start for Christophe Boisclair who qualified on pole while Jean-François Lafontaine qualified 3rd and Zacharie Robichon 17th. Note that the gap between the pole and the 21st and last qualifer was only 9 tenths of a second. In the pre-final race, Boisclair and Lafontaine finished 1st and 2nd while Robichon moved up to 11th place. In the final race, Lafontaine had a bad start and lost 7 spots in the first lap because of contact but it was a good start for Boisclair who kept lead of the pack until the 14th lap when he got passed by Steven Szigeti, the winner of the race. Boisclair finished 2nd, Lafontaine 8th and Robichon 11th.

In Rotax Junior, Zacharie Scalzo and Olivier Bédard qualified 4th and 5th and Nicolas Doré qualified 10th. For the pre-final and final races, the Scalzo – Bédard team continued their good work and finished 2nd and 3rd in both races. Nicolas Doré finished 8th in the final race.

In Honda senior, Vincent Cyr was again one of the leaders in this class. In the qualifying session, he took second place and won the pre-final race. In the main race, big disappointment for Cyr. He had lead the race from the start when, in lap 11, his engine showed problems. He finally retired on lap 13.

In 125 ICC, Jean-François Lafontaine qualified 3rd before he won the pre-final race. In the final race, a bad start and the lack of experience in this category were fatal. “I had a bad start and because of that, I pushed hard to catch the leaders but I destroyed the tires quickly. Tire management is important in this class compare to what I am used to in Rotax” said Lafontaine.

Next week Team SRA Karting will be racing at the Grand Prix of Shawinigan.
