SATURDAY REPORT

November 26, 2011

For the second year in a row, a Canadian driver stood on the top step of the podium in Rotax DD2 class at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals. Defending the championship run by Daniel Morad last year in Italy, Pier-Luc Ouellette drove a brilliant race to score his second DD2 title at the Grand Finals in Al Ain, UAE. Backing up his 2007 Championship run, at the same location he won his first, Ouellette also helped Canada earn the vice-championship in the new Nations Cup format.

It was an eventful day for Canadian's that saw our drivers score five top-ten results. Not quite matching last year's unbelievable final day, it was still another great year that once again showed just how powerful the Canadian Rotax scene is. Sending a RMCGF record number of drivers, with 21, Canada not only covered a large portion of the paddock area, but also had fifteen of those drivers transfer to todays Grand Finals, another great feat. Canada also seemed to have the largest audience in the grandstands around the Al Ain Raceway and anytime a Canadian driver made a pass, the 'world' heard it with loud cheers and roars. This also extended into the official drivers presentation where it seemed like the Canadian driver intro's just wouldn't end.

Another successful year for Team Canada for sure, here's how the final day of competition went.

FRIDAY REPORT

November 25, 2011

The third official day of competition treated Canada with mixed results as the final heat races in Al Ain for this year’s Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals really took a beating on many Canadian pilots, forcing a handful to the Last Chance Races. However, DD2 Masters drivers Scott Campbell scored a heat race win and will start second tomorrow, while Pier-Luc Ouellette scored a second place run in DD2 to place him on the pole position. Overall, 15 of the 21 drivers qualified for the main events and Canada is still the highest delegation of drivers at this year’s Grand Finals.

THURSDAY REPORT

November 24, 2011

The drivers of this year's Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in Al Ain were finally able to get some racing action under their belts as each class drove their first two of three heat races today. The track has not only proved to be very fast and challenging for drivers, but provided some very excellent racing action with plenty of places to pass and defend. Four Canadian drivers were able to muscle out heat wins as Jesse Lazare, Scott Campbell, Nicholas Latifi and Pier-Luc Ouellette each put Canada on top. Aside some only a few DNF's, the day was very good for Team Canada with solid finishes by every driver.

WEDNESDAY REPORT

November 23, 2011

The first official competition day of this year’s Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in Al Ain, UAE treated Team Canada very well. Highlighting the results was Pier-Luc Ouellette posting a new track record and the pole position time in Rotax DD2, while two other Canadian drivers were able to post times that will allow them to start each of their heat races from the front row, as Jesse Lazare, Junior, and Scott Campbell, DD2 Masters, each qualified in third place. Also posting top-ten results for Canada were Kyoichi Tsutsui, fifth in Rotax Junior, and Nicholas Latifi, sixth in DD2.

TUESDAY REPORT

November 22, 2011

The first official day of on-track practice took place today in Al Ain. Drivers from around the globe took to the track for two official timed practices, with all Canadian drivers coming to grips with the official RMCGF spec chassis. With 21 drivers this year, Canada not only has the largest delegation of drivers at this year's Grand Finals, but of all time, topping the 20 drivers the USA competed with last year in Italy.

With two past RMCGF Champions, Canada is on the radar of a lot of stopwatches throughout the paddock. Pier-Luc Ouellette won his Rotax DD2 World Championship at this very location in 2007 and is set to repeat with some excellent speed in his opening sessions. Last year’s Rotax DD2 Masters Champion Scott Campbell has also come to grips quickly in a very stout Masters class, featuring no less than seven past Rotax World Champions.
