FONTANA, CALIF. (April 12, 2012) - After successfully completing the Florida Winter Tour with a third place result in the overall championship standings, Rotax Junior standout Parker Thompson jet-set his way across the country for the final round of the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas in Fontana, Calif.

Having been the dominant junior driver in the series but failing to post solid race results due to some bad luck, the Canadian Tony Kart driver looked for redemption in the final event.

"Though we were fast in the opening weekends of the series, we had some issues that took us out of the championship chase," explained Thompson. "I think we proved that right from the beginning, we were a threat for the championship but that's racing and we need to move forward."

Heading to the CalSpeed Karting Center for the final round in the three event, six race series, Thompson had only one thing on his mind, winning. Hitting the slick-racing surface on Thursday for unofficial testing, the Tony Kart pilot was one of the fastest drivers on track, posting very competitive times and the same could be seen on Friday.

On Saturday morning for the first official race day of the final weekend, Thompson flexed his muscles in qualifying by taking the pole position with a blistering lap of 51.354. While falling back one position in the heat race to cross the line in second, Thompson was forced to start the main event from outside the front-row.

"It is very tough starting from the outside row at CalSpeed," explained Thompson. "I was shuffled wide on the start and lost a few positions in the first complex of corners."

Falling back to the fourth position, the former Team Canada pilot began to march his way forward. Moving into a podium position and then into second, Thompson set his sights on the leader, who had opened a gap on the rest of the field. Setting fast lap after fast lap, Thompson began to reel in the eventual race winner, but ran out of time before the checkered flag flew.

Looking to improve on Sunday and take the final victory of the 2012 Challenge of the Americas program, Thompson started his day off on the right foot by securing another pole position with a lap time of 49.398. Taking the point from the drop of the green flag for the heat race, Thompson led every circuit to claim the win and pole position for the main event.

Looking for a sweep of the day, Thompson was unchallenged in the 25-lap main event. Taking the win by seven seconds, Thompson finished the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas with a dominating performance.

"Gatorz Challenge of the Americas is a great series. It was a bit tough on us this year, but we hope to be back next season and fight for the title. A big congrats to Zach on his championship win, and I know he will represent well at the Grand Finals in Portugal later this year."

Parker Thompson would like to thank his current supporters and sponsors Tony Kart, BRK Engines, Courtney Concepts, OMP RLV, Sylvan Lake RV and tuner Mike Speed for all their hard work and continued support.
