The vastly populated Ontario karting community is welcoming its newest member to the industry, Racing Edge Motorsports. The new team has been formed by Wendy and Kevin Monteith and is based just outside the greater Toronto area. With a considerable amount of experience in Canada and the United States, the mother-son duo is going about their business in a unique fashion. The REM business model is focused on supporting both the driver and the mechanic as a whole package, while providing a professional atmosphere to each of its many services. Development is a crucial key to success in the sport of karting, as seen at the top level and throughout the lower stages. In all forms of motorsports, the driver and mechanic relationship is important in order to reach goals, and REM is ready to bring that concept to karting.

"We've been part of this sport for a long time and we are looking for a way to give back. This is our best chance to give back to the sport," stated Kevin Monteith, co-founder of Racing Edge Motorsports. "We are ready to go the extra mile with our drivers to bring out the most in each of them and we’re focused on raising everyone working under the REM tent to the next level. Our goal is to work with the best drivers and also those who that are on the edge of becoming the next star, helping them get to the front and teaching them how to maximize their potential. I am confident that our relationship with our many partners and the product lines thatwe carry will help us to achieve our goals."

Racing Edge Motorsports has signed on to work with SRA Karting International, becoming an official Birel dealer for the Ontario province. The relationship will bring a much-needed Birel presence to the area in two-cycle and Rotax racing. REM will also be working closely with Jake Collison of Collison Racing in the four-cycle area of the sport. The experience and success of both SRA and Collison should help guide REM in the positive direction on the popular Birel chassis line. Two other relationships will help power the REM squad. Terry Ventresca of TVR Engineering will oversee the two-cycle side while Glenn Butler of Butler Power will be behind the squad’s four-cycle engines. Both have highly regarded resumes in the sport and are sure to provide the best power for REM.

“We are looking to build our team around the Birel product, as we have a lot of faith in the chassis line,” continued Monteith. “SRA is a very respected operation and we are happy to be working alongside them. Collison Racing is exactly the same on the four-cycle side of things, and I hope our relationship takes Birel to the top in the area. Working with Ventresca and Butler, I stand by their engine work and our customers will enjoy the powerplants they produce.”

The REM karting operation will provide a number of services. Arrive-and-drive programs will be available for drivers wanting to travel from anywhere and race an REM-prepared package for a full race weekend at any REM scheduled event. Customers can set up a day at the track for driver training or mechanic training. No matter the experience, REM will help the driver gain that extra speed on-track or help a mechanic become more familiar with setting up a Birel chassis. Throughout the season, REM will offer individual and team test days to prepare for upcoming race events. If you don’t have time to work on your kart before that next race, Racing Edge Motorsports will welcome your kart into their shop for a full chassis preparation service.

The 2012 schedule for Racing Edge Motorsports will see the operation trackside at a number of high-profile Ontario events. REM will follow the entire Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship series and the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship. Events at the Toronto Racing Association of Karters in Goodwood and at the Mosport International Karting are also on the schedule. REM will be trackside for the Canadian Karting Championships in August and possible the Pan American Challenge in the United States.
