Team News: Strong Opening to 2012 for Racing Edge Motorsports

STOUFFVILLE, ONT (May 2, 2012) - Racing Edge Motorsports started out the season right where they ended last seasons, with podiums during the opening TRAK race at Goodwood last weekend. REM had five drivers racing the event, in the Senior Rotax class, Kieran Oxley and Brayden Seberras fought for a solid finish; in the Junior Rotax division, Miles Tyson was a strong contender all weekend, and in the Four Cycle Junior class, Chaston Cullum and Tyson we a strong duo.

In the Rotax Senior division, which saw a class with well over 10 entries, it was one of the more intense races of the day. Many top drivers made an appearance for this race, which created a race that was filled with competition and extreme skill. Oxley qualified quite well in the sixth position. During the prefinalís start Oxley had some contact which forced him to lose a few places, but he rebounded quickly by picking off karts lap-by-lap. At the conclusion of the prefinal, Oxley ended up crossing the line in fifth place, one spot better than qualifying. During the final, he obtained a better start and found himself in fourth place, but during the first lap the field was jostling about which again forced him to lose a few spots, but again he rebounded and ended up fourth overall. This was a superb race for Oxley to overcome all of his adversity.

Seberras was the next entry in Senior Rotax, and he fought hard all day but did not receive the position he was hoping for. During qualifying, Seberras was unable to find clear space on the busy Goodwood circuit which slowed his lap times down making it impossible to qualify well. Then when the prefinal aroused, Seberras began to make up some ground, but contact was made which forced him to lose all the positions that he had gained. Next up was the final, where Seberras again started to move forward and gain some positions, but again contact near the end of the race caused him to lose positions and make him fall towards the rear of the field. Since the contact was late in the race, he did not have the time to regain those positions. Although it was a rough day, Seberras did a solid job and hopes to improve during the next race event.

Junior Rotax was also a category that was stacked with competition. REMís Tyson had a rough day, but again did the best he could to bounce back from the misfortune that haunted him all day. As qualifying commenced, Tyson sat on the pole during the early stages, but the rest of the field quickly closed on his lap time. Unfortunately, they were able to surpass the lap he set, as he fell back to sixth position, but then a late quick lap by Seberras slotted him into the fourth position. At the start of the prefinal Tyson was unable to attain his position so he started back one row in sixth. As the field entered turn one, he got held up, but contact in front of him which caused him to fall to the rear of the field. Tyson began his trek to the front, by the end of the prefinal, Tyson ended up in the fifth position. Similar problems in the final put a damper on the chance for Tyson to make it to the podium where in turn one on the opening lap caused him to fall to the rear and work his way back up. At the end of the day, he was able to regain his fifth position and had a great run considering the circumstances. REM looks to see Tyson win many races during the 2012 season.

In Honda Junior, the competition was fierce and intense all day long between the top three drivers; two of which were REM pilots. Cullum, a new member to the REM team had a strong showing with his move to the Junior Four cycle category. During qualifying, Cullum put the kart on the inside of row two in third, but four tenths off so the team still had time to make up. Changes were made for the prefinal, and great strides were achieved, as Cullum was only two tenths off of the front runners and again finished third. Before the final a couple more changes were made and now Cullum was satisfied as he was able to run with the leaders and did not lose any time to them. He ended up third again, but was battling constantly throughout the race and ran in second for a majority of the event. Cullum had a fantastic race for his first race on the Birel chassis and his first race in Four Cycle Junior; REM believes that Cullum will be a serious contender throughout the season with a few wins to his name.

REMís other Honda Junior stand out; Tyson ran a solid race day during the opening round of the TRAK Championship. He ran well during qualifying as he put his Birel AM29 on the outside of the front row, starting second for the prefinal. Moving along to the prefinal event is where Tyson was able to showcase his true speed. He got out to the early lead off of the start and continued to pull away, winning by a large margin. During the Final event, Tyson took the lead right from the start, but this time the race was not as easy. He was under consistent pressure from the second and third place drivers, but then nearing the closing laps of the race Tyson got overtaken and was unable to regain the lead where he had to settle for second position. All in all it was a great race by Tyson and REM will be looking for him to take many victories in the Honda junior category this season.
