As part of eKartingNews.ca’s new editorial program for 2012, we will be following the efforts of Canadian’s racing abroad this season. A number of Canada’s top young drivers will be spending time in Europe and we will work to keep the EKN.ca readership up to speed on their performances. This new segment – the EKN.ca Driver Diary – will bring us up close and personal with a handful of racers this year, beginning with British Columbia’s Phillip Orcic. Phillip will be competing in the WSK Euro Series and assorted CIK events this summer, and this installment discusses the upcoming races at Val D'Argenton in France.

After coming back from the races in Sarno, Italy, I continued with my regular exercise routine, while trying to catch up with schoolwork ahead of the races in France. This is the first time that WSK Euro Series goes to a French track, and when combined with I have never raced in France before, it is sure to be an interesting event.

As usual, I checked out the layout of the track on the website hoping to get some preview information. I will be arriving in France with my mom on Monday, and after quick settling in, Tuesday we will be busy with the chassis assembly and getting organized for the first practice on Wednesday morning. Before I left for France the forecast was calling for a rainy week, and I wondered if this would be another Sarno déjà vu.

I'm looking forward to getting familiar with the track although, it is not the most suitable track for shifters. Nevertheless, I'm eager to start my practice sessions and make the best out of it. Being surrounded with the best shifter drivers in the world, there is no space for mistakes. Therefore, every session counts towards my end result. I am concentrating on improving with each session without being distracted by other drivers.

For now, I will be enjoying tasty French croissants.
