| South Sask Kart Club Racers Endure Mixed Weather in Opener |
The first race of the South Sask Kart Club season was met with a very mixed bag of weather...overcast clouds mixed with rain. Despite those conditions the races went forward.
Practice was generally cloudy and started out with 14 registered racers, but numbers declined as the rain began. It started to rain just before qualifying and subsequently several of the participants decided not to run in the rain.
Those who stayed put on their rain tires, and qualifying and the first race went ahead despite the rain.
The weather started to break for the second heat, with the Jr1 and Jr TAG running on a dry track with slicks. The Sr TAG/Masters started out on slicks, but only a couple (Nick Ferris and Sam Ferris) could stay on the track as the rain again returned. That heat was stopped a couple of laps in by the flag man because of concerns about safety in very wet conditions on slicks.
All in all not an optimal race day, but for those who braved the weather there was some additional experience of running in poor weather that may prove of some value in some of the race competitions this coming year, including the ROK Cup and ROTAX Max Challenge.
The South Sask Kart Club returns to action on May 27, with race two of the club championship. Learn more at http://www.saskkartclub.com |
