Nicholas Latifi, a member of the Sofina Foods Drivers' Development Program, completed a challenging weekend of racing as he entered his first race at the famed Hungaroring Circuit near Budapest, Hungary. The BVM Motorsports driver was in the thick of the action during every official session as the team and driver continued their development program. Latifi set a new high water mark on the season, taking fourth place in race three. The Canadian/Italian rookie ran in third place for most of the race, just getting piped for the final podium spot in the final laps.

Friday was an up and down day, as the team looked for a mechanical gremlin in the engine department. During practice session two, just five laps into a new tire run to simulate qualifying, the exhaust failed, ending the session early. Qualifying was a disappointing result for Latifi, who struggled with car balance having not completed a new tire run in practice and also missing more than half of the practice time. This hurt the team's ability to dial in the car balance.

"Nicholas did amazing job all weekend long and I am very proud of him," commented David Tennyson, coach for Latifi. "His final race was a solid performance and demonstrates his development in only his second event of the season. I am looking forward to his continued development both driving the car, and working with the team."

In race one, Latifi had a good start, staying clear of the contact a head of him and moving into seventh position on lap one. Latifi held station and crossed in seventh place, giving him a good inside row starting spot for race two.

In race two, Latifi struggled off the start, losing two spots and bringing the car back in ninth place in the final order.

In race three, the 16 year-old rookie had a picture perfect start, getting a great launch and gaining four positions into turn one. A solid race had Latifi in the third spot through nine circuits, getting passed on the last lap for the final podium position.

"I was determined to improve my qualifying performance in Hungaroring, however a few technical issues set us back in practice," commented Latifi. "This affected our ability to find a good car balance. In races one and two we ran a car with much better balance, and I was able to find a better race pace, setting me up for the final race on Sunday. I was pleased with fourth place in the Sunday final and look forward to developing and working with the car."

Up next for Latifi and the BVM Motorsports team is some continued off-track work in preparation for the third race weekend. The next race on the F3 Italia calendar will see cars make the first of four stops in Italy, as they head to the Circuito del Mugello on June 6-10. The Mugello track is located 50 km north of Florence will be host to Rounds Seven, Eight, and Nine of the 24-round series.

The Sofina Foods Drivers' Development Program was created to help Canadian karting series offer young drivers a goal and a prize to work towards.
