On Sunday (June 17), the weather was windy and overcast for race 4 of the Manitoba Karting Association Championship at Gimli Motorsport Park.
With the skies getting dark, Race Director Sean Anderson decided to skip all the breaks and push through the schedule so all the races could be done before it rained. This worked out perfectly as the rain just started at the end of the last Final.
With the dry track, the GBR Karting sponsored event had a lot of close racing. In Junior 2 Four Stroke there was a photo-finish with Michael Copp just beating out Garrett Gulenchyn at the line, with Wyatt Lajoie third. In Junior Rotax, John Buzza ran away from the field, while behind him there was a three way battle for second place. At the finish Buzza won, with Morgan McDonald second, Jordan Brown third and Alexis Budel fourth. In Mini Max, it was Garrett Gulenchyn and Stephen Bachalo going at it throughout the Final, with Gulenchyn taking the win on the last lap, ahead of Bachalo and Bryson McDonald. In Micro Max, it was Brandon Berard who emerged with the win, leading Rylan Despin and Logan McDonald 3rd. Junior 1 Four Stroke had Jillian Berard winning, with Robert Schiewe second and Brad Bachalo in third. Senior Rotax saw Jeff Bachalo taking another win, with Josh Zilkie just behind, and Larry Guenther making the podium with a third place finish. The biggest and most entertaining race of the day was the Senior Four Stroke Final. The large field had tight battles throughout, but it was John Buzza who won, with Yakov Zaretskin second, and Roland Fortier third.
It was good racing on a dry track after the two previous rain races, and now everyone is pumped for our next race weekend the MID-CANADA KARTING CLASSIC at Red River Exhibition Park in Winnipeg on July 21-22.
