TROIS-RIVIERES, QUE. (June 28, 2012) - After wrapping up Round 3 of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship less than two weeks ago, Team PSL Karting is set to take on more of Canada’s premier karting series. Heading back to Ontario for Rounds 4 & 5 over the Canada Day holiday weekend (June 29-July 1), a strong line-up of drivers will look to garner more impressive results for the world’s No. 1 CRG distributor. The famed Mosport International Karting facility, home of PSL Ontario, will host the doubleheader event, with Team PSL Karting pilots looking to rise to the top. With more race wins and podiums the goal for the talented squad, the drivers will also look to keep their championship hopes alive as the series reaches its second half.
"For sure this will be a challenging event for us as many of the other teams are improving their own race programs," explained Andrew Campbell, Director of Race Development. "However, at PSL/CRG, we never stop. After some adjustments to our internal driver R&D system, this race should yield us some valuable feedback and results."
Currently leading the Rotax DD2 class standings, on the strength of two wins at Goodwood and a third place podium finish at ICAR, two-time Rotax DD2 World Champion Pier-Luc Ouellette will look to be back on top this weekend. A podium finisher at Mosport in 2011, Ouellette has what it takes to master the challenging long track layout. Also looking to keep grabs on his championship lead, Ouellette is sure to be on top of his game in Mosport. Alessandro Bizzotto will also be back in action this weekend in the DD2 category. Taking in some pre-event testing this week leading up to the ECKC rounds, Bizzotto will be striving for his first big ECKC win, after taking his first win in the Coupe du Quebec earlier this month. After missing the opening rounds while running the F3 Italia series, Nicholas Latifi will be back in Ontario for ECKC action this weekend. Taking in Round 3 in Quebec, Latifi scored a fourth place finish to start off his Canadian karting season.
In DD2 Masters, Luc Sauriol and Marc-Andre Bourgeois will continue their quests for the class championship and Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals berth. With a win each during the two Goodwood rounds, as well as three more podium finishes between the two drivers, both remain in contention for the title. Sauriol currently sits second overall in the over-32 category, with Bourgeois not far behind in third. The doubleheader event format will provide the two DD2 Masters drivers with plenty of opportunity, and look for both to put their CRGs at the front of the pack.

Home track pilot Johnny Flute will take on the Rotax Senior field this weekend. Looking to use his vast knowledge of the 12-turn, 1.5-km circuit to his advantage, the PSL Ontario driver will look to top the blocks this weekend against a stacked field of senior competitors. A top-10 finish in Round 2 has been the best result for Flute in 2012 ECKC action, and the talented pilot will look to improve on that with a solid run at Mosport.
Coming off a strong result at the ICAR round, Rotax Junior driver Samuel Fontaine will be back in action this weekend. Showing progress throughout the whole season to date, Fontaine’s hard work paid off in Round 3, taking second place honours against a huge field of juniors. Currently seventh in the overall class championship, Fontaine will look to continue his hot streak and move up in the points. CRG Factory pilot Zachary Claman-DeMelo will join Fontaine in the Junior category. A double-podium finish and polesitter from 2011 ECKC action at Mosport, Claman-DeMelo will certainly be vying for both wins come this weekend.
Current Rotax Mini Max championship leader Alex Murphy is set to take on the demands of the Mosport facility. After an impressive start to the 2012 ECKC season, with a win and second place finish during the Goodwood rounds, Murphy will looking to be back at the top after his sixth place result in Round 3.
Another championship leader will contest the Mosport rounds this weekend. Untouchable in Micro Max action to date, Matthew Latifi will look to keep his perfect streak alive and stretch his championship lead.
"Matthew Latifi is another young star in the making - determined and talented like his brother Nicky; his program is flawless," added Dominic Labrecque, Team Principal. "With a little luck, Latifi should have a chance at another strong result."
Completing the driver line-up for PSL Karting is PSL Montreal’s Mathieu Demers, who will take on the Briggs & Stratton Senior category.
Team PSL Karting will take to the track Friday (June 29) for pre-event practice, leading up to two full days of racing action. Saturday (June 30) will see Round 4 action, while Sunday (July 1) is set for Round 5 of the 2012 Eastern Canadian Karting Championship.
Team PSL Karting will be trackside in 2012 at the Pan American Rotax Max Challenge, Eastern Canadian Karting Championship, Quebec Cup, Le Monaco de Trois-Rivieres, United States Grand Nationals, ASN Canada FIA Canadian National Karting Championships and SKUSA SuperNationals. Team PSL Karting is associated with CRG, Maxter Kart Engines, Rotax, Tillett Racing Seats, Sniper, Unipro, Douglas Wheels, Vega, MG Tires, Arai, Bell, ULV, Mir, Freem, Elf Fuels, Alfano, MaxJet Software, D.I.D.
