TROIS-RIVIERES, QUE. (July 9, 2012) - Four members of Team PSL Karting impressed at the recent JET Karting Rotax Summer Shootout, held over the June 29-July 1 weekend. As the preliminary event before the United States Rotax Grand Nationals later this summer, PSL Karting USA sent auxiliary team equipment to the JET Karting at Michiana Raceway Park facility in northern Indiana for the Shootout, and came home with multiple race wins and podiums. While the weekend was mainly utilized for testing in preparation for the Grand Nationals, team drivers also completed two of the necessary four “punches” in order to qualify for the August event. With 2011 Rotax DD2 US Grand National Champion Kristina Vorndran on top of the DD2 action, Austin Versteeg and Matthew Thomas also earned podium finishes, showing that PSL Karting has what it takes to earn more championship titles in 2012.
In a small field of Rotax DD2 pilots, Vordran showed why she is the reigning US DD2 Champion. Earning top honours across the board during Saturday’s events, Vorndran was met with more competition on Sunday and didn’t falter. Again sweeping the day, Vorndran will no doubt be the driver to beat for the 2012 DD2 title and corresponding Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals/Team USA berth.
Rotax Junior driver Versteeg will be a contender in the junior ranks come August. Clocking third quick in qualifying on Saturday, the 2011 Florida Winter Tour Mini Max Champion just missed the podium with his fourth place finish in the day’s feature race. Back on track Sunday, Versteeg struggled in qualifying, only clocking 13th quick in the 23-kart field. Progressing to ninth in the prefinal, Versteeg then put the pedal to the metal in the final. Picking off karts one by one, Versteeg made it to third by the checkered flag.
“Austin had his best performance of his junior career at the Shootout,” explained PSL Karting USA’s team manager Andrew Campbell. “He has shown a lot of growth on track, is physically better able to handle the kart, and his confidence level is at an all-time high. I am really happy with Austin’s development.”

He is our newest team Mini Max driver, and I see a lot of potential in Matthew becoming an exceptional racer in the future.”
