| Event Preview: Stars of Karting - West #2 - Miller |
The Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar Series has its first Western-only start on the slate this weekend as teams and drivers visit Miller Motorsports Park located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah. Many of the teams spent the lead-up week testing at the 0.89-mile circuit, and 27 Canadian entries will be among them as track action begins today. The weekend’s double-race format will establish the pecking order in the West, as to date the point tallies are from Oklahoma, where East and West Divisions competed together.

Brendan Langlois (First Kart) and Scott Rossi (Intrepid) will lead eight Canadians into JICA action where the pair will be looking to do just as they did at the Eastern event in Indiana. Entering New Castle sitting second and third from the opener, they departed sitting first and second after combining for four podiums. David Ostella (CRG) will miss the Utah round recovering from a broken arm suffered in a Barrie Grand Prix crash, while Remo Ruscitti (Italkart) makes his return to Stars action, following a heavy crash at New Castle. Other Canadian entries include: Michael Furfari (Juncos), Chad Grunow (Genesis/CRG), Tyler Wheeler (Birel), Connor Carrothers (Cameron/CRG), and Hayden Ritter (Italkart).
Seven Canadians will also be in action in ICA where a number are expected to contend at the front. National #4 Nick Tonkin (Birel) enters sitting sixth in points while National #6 Tyler Dueck (Intrepid) enters sitting ninth. The pair are also the top two Canadians in the East standings, and will be looking to work to the front in the West. Colby Jenn (Intrepid) should also be at the sharp end of the grid, as Michael Hogg (Italkart), Kevin Glover (Genesis/CRG) and Brody Goble (Birel) expect to be. The entire Canadian ICA contingent hails from British Columbia but one: Luke Benhke (Genesis/CRG). The Stars rookie from Peace River, Alberta, will look to follow up his strong Western Canadian RoK runs with top tens in Utah. ICA will see its first new winner of the season this weekend as Intrepid factory driver Scott Jenkins will not be running the west after having swept the first four races of the Stars schedule.

The biggest Canadian content will be in SPEC Racer where Devon Sandeen continues the defence of his Western Championship. The ever-growing TaG class has the most entries of any class in Utah, and eight Canadians are among 39 pre-entries. While fine tuning a new Intrepid at Oklahoma, Sandeen scored a fifth and fourth and will be looking for even more in Utah where he enters fourth overall. After finishing fifth in race two at the opening round, Nick Fairney (TrueNorth/Intrepid) will be looking to move into the top ten in points, currently sitting eleventh. Other Canadian entries include: Arly Irish (Intrepid), Kris Hoffbeck (Genesis/CRG), Taylor Archer (Birel), Shaun Hodgson (CRG), Max Riddle (TrueNorth/Intrepid) and Robert Durman (Birel).
Just three Canadian drivers will be in ICC action led by Jordy Vorrath (Intrepid) looking to rebound from Oklahoma. After a troubling opening event, Vorrath is one of few who seem able to challenge defending ICC national champion Gary Carlton (CRG). In New Castle, Vorrath was the man in Saturday qualifying but Carlton stole the Prefinal and Final wins from the Canadian. Vorrath will look to get back to P1 beginning today. Also in the ICC field are Don McGregor (Italkart) and Gianmarco Raimondo (Cameron/CRG), who will be looking to rebound from a disappointing DNF suffered in Barrie when he spit the chain on the formation lap.

Cadet will see just one Canadian in action in West as Anthony Furfari (Juncos) arrives having bagged his first US National win at the WKA Grand Nationals in Wisconsin.
