So concludes the first day of race action in Grand-Mere. Saturday morning brings one warmup session for each class before Heat race rotation two, lunch, and heat race rotation three. Saturday will wind up with the Last Chance Qualifier for Rotax Senior where the best of the rest will look to join those who gain automatic transfer to the Sunday morning prefinal.
The story today was a wet one - consistent rain. The sun made an attempt to break through during morning qualifying and things dried out for a brief spell before rain returned and stayed for the duration. Rotax Senior is shaping up very well as a number of drivers indicated to me having new wet rubber in qualifying was not the way to go. It caught a few out, and drivers such as Michael Vincec, Lorenzo Mandarino and others will be storming forward through the packs as heats continue. Another trend for the day is that the officials are not tolerating any nonsense with National Championships on the line, regardless of the conditions. Rightfully so.
DD2 was a class more than any that put a feeling in the air, that elusive feeling that comes when big events are on the track and big names are in the seats. Michael Di Meo and Pier-Luc Ouellette were well clear of the field today while Frank Launi and Philippe Gelinas had a fantastic early scrap for third. Dan Di Leo was looking hungry in fifth before his power-plant let him down, and Richard Boake looks right at home in the class after winning his Ontario GrandNational Bear last weekend. Christophe Boisclair may have been sixth, but he was third quick and will surely be a factor.
Tommy Beshro looked very good in the wet today scoring a Heat 1 win in Rotax Junior, while Jesse Lazare demolished the field in Rotax Mini-Max. The biggest margin of the day was layed down by Fritz Leesmann in Formula Senior ICC where it appears Team pslkarting.com has the Champion for the second straight year already. Leesmann was 11.734 seconds clear, and set a best lap nearly two full seconds better than the rest. Bryson Schutte and Derek Michaud scored convincing Honda wins in the wet, and the smallest of the bunch had a dazzling run to the wire: Santino Ferrucci pipping Lance Stroll by just 0.158 in Micro-Max.
Saturday action on the track begins at 9am. _________________ 2007 F1 Pool Champion. |

Hey Neelan,
Not 100% sure but I think it was water. Coming out of turn three on the opening lap he just pulled to the side with what looked like a powerless rotax. _________________ 2007 F1 Pool Champion. |

PADDOCK UPDATE: Olivier Sirois is back to P1 from Heat A vs B. He was issued a warning flag on track, and therefore can not be issued a penalty after the fact - the warning is the penalty. _________________ 2007 F1 Pool Champion. |

Good afternoon from Grand-Mere! After an absolutely ideal setup yesterday in the ASN Canada FIA trailer, ekartingnews was denied access this morning. Apparently today there is "just too much going on" for ekn to work at the ASN desk. So, after trolling the paddock for a computer, we're back online. Special thanks to Carlo Triolo for the lap top! _________________ 2007 F1 Pool Champion. |
